Anyone who has had a friend or relative in an assisted living facility or nursing home knows how expensive it can be. An assisted living facility usually costs between $3,000 and $4,000 per month. Nursing homes cost between $6,000 and $7,000 per month.
While not everyone will qualify and/or be able to afford LTC Insurance, there are a host of alternative ways that people cover all or a portion of their long term care expenses, such as: Private pay out-of-pocket from your investments or pension income, reverse mortgages, Medicare Supplement policies, Medicare, Medi-Cal. Keep in mind there is not one method of paying for long term care that is foolproof, therefore a variety of resources may be used.
